DONALEN APPLE OF MY EYE AADC (Pippin) competes in the 16” class at Agility Association of Canada sanctioned trials. In this association you must have a perfect score to have a qualifying run.
In 2003, his first season, he went to six trials or the equivalent of 9 days of trailing.
At the third trial (fourth day) he had earned his ADC (Agility Dog of Canada) title with 5 qualifying scores (3 Starter Standard, 1 Starter Gamblers, and 1 Starter Jumpers), 5 first places, 2 seconds, 3 thirds, and 2 Double Q’s (2 perfect scores on the same day).
At the fifth trial (eighth day) he had earned his AADC (Advanced Agility Dog of Canada) title with 7 qualifying scores (3 Advanced Standard, 1 Advanced Gamblers, 1 Advanced Snooker, 1 Advanced Jumpers, and 1 Master Jumpers) and 3 Double Q’s.
In all, Pippin has 39 ribbons: 2 titling ribbons, 12 qualifying scores, 11 first places, 6 seconds, 6 thirds, and 2 fourths.
He has three legs out of the 7 he needs for the Masters title.
He still needs a Team Relay from the Advanced level, but he is competing at the Masters level in everything else! What a learning curve!
When I bring a Löwchen in full show coat to the starting line I get a few
Aaahs, but at the finish line I hear “Did you see that Löwchen run?”
In his last Advanced Standard run he nearly gave me a heart attack by heading for an off course chute, but I called him off, and got him over the next jump where he stopped dead still! The smell of freshly delivered French fries at ringside caught his nose. I got him going again and we still qualified with 3 seconds to go on the clock for his AADC title!
This fall and winter we are training for a future tracking title. I hope there will be no chip wagons on the site!
