I think it looks like something bit Pistil in the butt while he was in the chute, and he's going to turn around, dive back in and get it, all before the chute falls.  What *really* happened in the picture is that there was a 180 degree turn after the chute and Pistil was just responding in his usual lively manner. ;-}

Updates!~~ Pistil is now officially: TayWil's Aerien Pistil Pete, OA, AXJ, NAC, NJC, NGC, RS-N  by virtue of qualifying and winning first in 6 of his 7 runs at a NADAC/ASCA agility trial last weekend. Pistil now has his 3 NADAC Novice titles in Standard, Jumpers and Gamblers, plus his Novice Standard title in ASCA. I'm pretty sure all this is a first for the breed!
NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council) is one of 3 venues in which agility dogs in the USA can compete; NADAC is generally known for requiring extremely fast times on its courses. NADAC trials are often dual sanctioned with ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) which awards agility titles of its own. Pistil's "RS-N" is his first ASCA title. The other two agility venues in the US are AKC (American Kennel Club) and USDAA (United States Dog Agility Association).

I just love the expression on Pistil's face - that hair and those ears flying everywhere! Pistil's earned his AX (AKC Agility Excellent) title with 3 scores of 100 and 3 first places. Pistil is now working on his AKC MX (Master Agility Excellent) which requires 10 perfect runs in the Excellent B Standard class, and his MXJ (Master Excellent JWW), which requires 10 perfect runs in the Excellent B Jumpers With Weaves class.
While he's working on his MX and MXJ, Pistil will also be collecting points and Double Qs for his MACH, (Master Agility Championship) title. A MACH requires 750 points - a dog earns one point for each second he is under Standard Course Time in the 2 Excellent B classes - and 20 Double Qualifiers. A dog earns a Double Q when he qualifies in both Excellent B Standard and JWW on the same day, and that is *very* hard to do!
As of today, Pistil has 4 MXJ legs (6 to go), 0 MX legs (10 to go), 0 Double Qs (20 to go) and 51 MACH points (699 to go). Piece of cake!! ;-} Heck, Pistil isn't even 2 years old yet!

Here's .............Pistol with his game face on Pistol's year-end wrap-up! I just can't tell you how delighted I am with my little guy. I've never trained a dog who tries so hard to be right, and who is so pleased with himself when he is. ;-} - Pistil has had a fantastic fall: In AKC he has 9 out of the 10 legs for his Masters Jumpers With Weaves (MXJ) title and 3 of his 10 Masters Standard (MX) legs. He also has 2 Double Qualifiers and 213 points toward his Master Agility Championship (MACH). He's now hitting 3.5 yards per second in AKC Standard, and 4.5 yards per second in AKC Jumpers...unbelievable! To give you an idea of how competitive it is in this part of the country, the 12" Excellent B class usually runs about 30 dogs; at Pistol's last trial, there were 42 dogs in his class, and 1st through 4th were separated by less than one second!
Pistil's 2002 NADAC titles earned are: NAC, OAC, NJC, OJC, EJC, NGC, OGC; his 2002 ASCA titles are: RS-N, RS-O, JS-N, JS-O, GS-N, GS-O. (The "J" is Jumpers, and the "G" is Gamblers, Pistol's favorite game.) The highlight of his NADAC career came last September when, in Elite Gamblers for the first time, Pistil was the only dog in all the Gamblers classes to qualify! Pistil is averaging 5 yards per second in the NADAC Elite Jumpers class (no weave poles!)
Pistil's official name is now: TayWil’s Aerien Pistil Pete, AX, AXJ; OAC, OGC, EJC; RS-O, GS-O, JS-O
In his first full year of competition, he has earned 19 titles! What a boy!
