Our beloved granddaughter, Gioia, left us on June 30th, 2006, aged 11. After twelve months of pain (without any complaints), major surgery to install a mechanical heart pump as a temporary measure until a new heart became available, several months spent in the Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, our special little "Princess" slipped away whilst under anaesthetic for an operation to try to rid her of some of the major infection that had been ravaging her system for several months.

When Gioia was born on January 8th, 1995, she was 26 weeks early, and weighed only 1550 grams (3.4 lbs). For her to have to fight for her life at the very beginning showed just how very special she was. She was here for a purpose! She grew up to be a beautiful child... bright, intelligent and very happy!

Please, don't ask us if we are over it.
We will never be over it!

Please, don't tell us Gioia is in a better place.
She isn't here with us!

Please, don't tell us she isn't suffering.
We haven't come to terms with why
she had to suffer at all.

Please, don't ask us if we feel better.
For bereavement isn't a condition that clears up.

Please, don't tell us
"At least you had her for eleven years"...
What year would you choose for your loved one to die?

Please, don't ever tell us that
God doesn't give us more then we can handle.

Please, just say you are sorry.

Please, just say that you'll remember her.

Please, just talk to us about her.

Please, just mention her name.

Please, just let us cry.
