There is no one group in
charge there and no one spokesperson, hence there have been a lot of
rumors and conflicting reports. A direct message from the CACC is that
animals are not being given up by NYorkers "fleeing" the city.
Reportedly, there are still some animals belonging to the victims of the
tragedy who have not been rescued and some who are still housed in
evacuated buildings. Some court orders are being obtained to rescue those.

888-LOST-123 in the New York area, and 718-272-7200 outside the NY
metropolitan area. These numbers should be called only in emergency
circumstances, according to state and local authorities, because of the
